Patient Privacy

Did you know that as a medical patient you have the right to privacy act? These acts are laws that have been put in place to prevent hospitals and their employees from sharing or releasing your personal information.

To some people it might not seem that important. But others are not as open and certainly have the right to choose who does and doesn't have access to their information. It's not like people are lining up to take advantage of medical patients but stranger things have happened!

Take a look at this web report we found from www.wlwt.com read about it here. The report tells about a woman who was treated at a medical facility for syphilis. An employee at that facility allegedly shared the woman's medical records on her own Facebook page! The patient was devastated after being the subject of verbal abuse and humiliation and is now suing.

Regardless of the nature of the patients records it is not ok to share! These facilities and their employees are trusted with sensitive information all the time. Who knows how many cases like this occur and or how many violations take place?!

Unfortunately the medical facility will also pay the price, and have to be held just as liable as the employee. Sometimes it's an accident, other times it can be malicious and nasty. Regardless you should know that as a medical patient your information is confidential. Medical facilities, hospitals, doctors, nurses and other hospital employees are charged with the responsibility of protecting your information. Not promoting it on social media or facebook!

Malpractice Settlements can pay out millions!

Have you ever wondered how costly these medical malpractice lawsuits are? If you Google something about "medical malpractice payouts" you will find hundreds of articles reporting multi-million dollar payouts! Medical doctors and medical professionals pay good money for malpractice insurances that protect them from these costly lawsuits, typically helping cover these outstanding sums being paid out.

Why so much you ask? The answer will always depend on the level of malpractice and of course the amount of future medical attention needed as a result. The case will always depend on how much damage was done, and the level of neglect that caused the injuries or death.

The better your attorney is the more you might be able to make. Remember that there is little to no standard for medical care facilities in our Country. The lack of a standard makes the blame process a little difficult. We can assume that the lack of a standard and uniform compensation system that some patients got way more than they could or should have while others might have gotten much less.

These suits are so high because most patients will never be the same again, if they live. Often times requiring extra medical attention. These high sums like the millions of dollars you see are usually covering the pain and suffering as well as the future medical costs.

How long does a malpractive lawsuit take to settle?

Have you or a loved one been thinking about filing a lawsuit against your doctor or hospital? Wondering how long it might take for your case to settle? The answer is kinda tough! Some cases can be drawn out for years while others can settle out of court quickly and easily.

Remember that in order for an attorney to actually accept your case there's likely a chance that there was a mistake. The issue with answering how long it can take to settle a malpractice suit are all the moving pieces involved.

Each malpractice case is going to be a little different. Ultimately your case and how long it takes to settle will depend on how strong the complaint is, how strongly the defendant is fighting the suit and of course what your willing to settle for. Remember that going to court takes time and money!
Most attorney will take a malpractice case on a contingency payment plan. Meaning that they feel you do have a good case and they will represent you and your interests and take payment when your case settles. The amounts can vary, again depending on the case and amount of work involved. Since these attorneys are initially working for free most of them will attempt to close the case and move forward as quickly as possible.

Medical Malpractice attorneys and how to find one

Lets assume that there is in fact some sort of medical standard in America. The land of the free to do whatever you want if you have money or are on the right team! Then malpractice would apply to any doctor or medical professional that makes a mistake either by negligence or accidents such as an omission in practice that results in a patient receiving less than that "standard" and resulting in injury and possible even death.

There are several attorneys that practice law and dedicate themselves to the practices of defending or attacking medical facilities and professionals. To protect against a malpractice lawsuit an attorney will defend their actions and try to prove that the patients harm or injuries weren't  a result of an error or negligence and then of course an attorney attacking would prove the opposite. That the patients injuries were a result of errors and could have been prevented with proper care.

Malpractice suits are very common, and most medical professionals will have some sort of insurance in place to protect them. Whatever the case Medical Malpractice is a serious issue. Go online and read articles about an attorney before you retain one for you malpractice law suits. The more you know about your attorney and their past cases the better you can protect yourself.

The easiest way to look for a malpractice attorney is to online. Star with a search engine and see what your able to pull up. Take your time to read several results and get an idea of you think you need from your attorney. Some might even take your case without any down payments. You might also be able to find others like yourself that are currently going through the same issues.

How many people are lost in hospitals each year?

Have you ever asked yourself how many people die from errors in American hospitals and care facilities? It's been reported that the American Health Care system has been responsible for killing about 500 people per day! That's right, our American hospitals and care centers are reportedly losing as many as 500 patients per day! 500 people is a lot! And these people are dying from accidents, errors, and infectious diseases!
It's been reported that millions, if not billions of dollars have been wasted and billed to medical insurance companies for procedures and medications that aren't even necessary! We can make a strong argument that the hospitals and facilities charged with caring for these patients stand to make a ton of money with the freedom to operate and bill for just about anything they would like.

Aside from the hundreds of patients dying there are equal numbers of patients being rejected treatments! As well as patients suffering from poor procedures that haven't died but are still suffering.
You can't believe every report you read. We understand that you must consider the sources! After more research and following several articles on the topic we have come to another poor conclusion regarding the American health care system.

We have another discrepancy in statistics, as if it's easier for the NFL to track how many sacks a player has than how many people have died in hospitals due to errors or something that could have been prevented. Some agencies report total deaths lower than 100,000 people while others are saying as high as 400,000 plus deaths have been reported. It does also seem to show that the numbers are actually increasing rather than decreasing.

Whatever the true numbers are, one death by error is too many. Especially in America with doctors making hundreds of thousand of dollars and our medical facilities billing thousands of dollars for some pretty basic operations and treatments. With all the money changing hands there should be no reason for these simple errors! The American health care system and the doctors practicing in these facilities need to be held accountable for the errors that are killing patients due to errors.

What is ObamaCare?

ObamaCare is a US Law, created to help improve or repair the state of our countries health care systems. Noticing the lack of help and support that America is providing to it's citizens, ObamaCare, or the Affordable Care Act, is aimed at helping close the gap for Americas in need of medical assistance. To provide adequate and affordable halthcare for the masses.

The bill was signed in back in 2010 and after much controversy and debate. The two major parties were strongly opposed with several amendments made before we came up with the bill as it is today.
Although there have been no improvements as of yet, the original bill was modeled after Mitt Romney's system that was implemented in Massachusetts. The plan seemed to be a model that both of the major political parties might be able to stand beside, and received praise from both ends.

Ultimately the bill was a failure. Statistically there weren't many changes in the number of people who actually went out and purchased health care. The number of freebies increased! RomneyCare has been referred to as a double failure, and Mitt himself doesn't boast about the topic quite as much as he used to.

One of the most controversial topics are the tax penalties assessed to those who do not comply wiht the law and actually purchase health care. The amount of the penalties have increased since the bill was brought in. Its been said that the penalty for not carrying insurance will basically be about as expensive as HALF of the average health care plan for the year.

ObamaCare certainly hasn't had the impact that it was hyped up to deliver. As always there are plenty of biased opinions as to why it's not working. In general the struggles that our country has imposed upon ourselves with our opposing political parties seems to be the main problem and why we cannot come to an actual solution. The law was supposed to fix the American Health Care system but it seems to have made it worse and cost more money than if we left it alone!

Where can I learn about the best medical facilities in the world?

Have you ever wondered about which hospitals and doctors were the best? Which countries provide the best medical care to it's citizens? We have too! We went online to check and see which resources are reliable and whats out there on medical systems and their health reports. What we found was discouraging!

It seems like there have been some attempt to start compiling medical report cards so to speak. The World Health Organization compiled a report in 2000 called the world health report. The results were staggering, and have been referred to as NOTORIOUS!

The WHO report showed that the united states came in #15 in performance and 37th overall! The system used to score has been slandered by numerous interests and people with all kinds of different agendas. Ultimately we feel that the system was able to prove the United States is FAR from a powerhouse when it comes to medicine and treatment. WHO decided not to list or rank countries in their latest report in 2010 because the previous results were so controversial.

A separate entity stepped up in 2010 and attempted to single out 7 developed countries' medical systems and their health care performance. Their report brought the United States in at the very bottom, DEAD LAST!

What you need to know about health care in the U.S.

In a world of endless documents, reports, and debates our countries medical system and practices seem to be at the top of the list! The medical industry is a multi-billion dollar operation with some of the smartest and most trusted in our society providing the best care for our population... or is it?

We all know about the money changing hands, all the new advances, technologies and medical break throughs but we tend to find ourselves dancing around the same topics and issues. How is it that with all this money and intelligence our country can't seem to take care of our veterans or cure simple illnesses? We can debate all day and bring up all kinds of articles but we would rather tell you what you really need to know about health care in the united states: It's a business!

When it comes to business people tend to get a little crazy! The facts are that the medical facilities and laws they abide by are created by people who have a financial interest in protecting their own operation. Our country has plenty of resources as a whole, plenty of medications and plenty of doctors and medical professionals so why are people being denied treatment? MONEY!

The hospitals, doctors, and pharmaceutical companies and insurance companies rely on one another to keep their pockets lined in one fashion or another. When a patient is denied treatment that's needed for any reason it seems to contradict our country and constitution.

In order to protect yourself spend some time on Google researching your specific situation or ailment. Learn about the common treatments and practices and get an idea of what to expect. Find out about other patients' experiences with the same insurance companies or facilities or doctors that you and your family are relying on.

where can I read reviews about my doctor or hospital?

Did you know that there are online resources and websites that grades medical facilities? Take some time to look up your doctor or hospital and see what others have experienced. It's quick, it's easy and using health grades can help prevent costly mistakes. What a great resource for learning about the best place to get medical attention and avoid costly medical errors! Companies like www.HealthGrades.com  focus on connecting the patient with the right doctor for them regardless of your coverage and or medical insurances.

Using Google you can always find a lot of resources online that will help you determine the best medical professional and medical facilities for you. There are indexes for medical professionals that will allow you to read reviews and learn the best cares for your needs.

Each patient is different, and the medical field is getting pretty large making it difficult to choose the best care practices for individual patients or their families. Make sure that you read about your medicines, doctors and the facilities providing care so you are able to play an active role in your own medical treatments.

Common Medical Malpractices and how to avoid them

Common medical malpractices:

A medical malpractice suit can be placed on a medical doctor, nurse or any other medical practitioner that has been trusted with the care of a patient and violated that trust. Although medical errors are not as common as they could be, there certainly are a high number of cases in existence, most of which could and should have been prevented.

A malpractice case typically requires an attorney to file suit on behalf of a client, and of course there are large sums of money involved. This is not a blog dedicated to attacking medical professionals, rather than a blog dedicated to the common mistakes. We want people to be proactive and aware of the potentially harmful situations that exist so you can prevent anything bad for you, your family, and your loved ones as well as ours!

After a bit of research and a little homework it looks the United States actually LACKS a "patients bill of rights" which would basically consist of the standard rights of patients when being treated by a medical professional or a medical facility. We found an article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U.S._patients'_bill_of_rights on Wikipedia (wikipedia) that explained the attempts and struggles of creating this "patients bill of rights"

Without feeding too much into any facts or bias' regarding the topic it does seem that there should be SOMETHING that dictates a standard. The argument seems to be that there is an opposition to any such bill and most of the arguments tend to be based around finances....
In the meantime there are constantly new medicines hitting the marketing, nursing home abuse, contagious diseases, harmful virus', and anti-bacterial resistant infections crawling through these multi billion dollar facilities. The patient is the one who suffers the consequences that nobody will appreciate until they experience.

It's not likely that a logical system will be in place soon. There are far too many financial interests interfering with common sense when it comes to medical practices. Until we do have some safety and security we hope that our articles and link will shed some light on these issues and maybe save a few lives as well!
